CW Electrical came and rewired our house from top to bottom. They expertly removed all the 1950’s wiring and plug sockets and put in a brilliant modern system with the minimum of mess.
Many issues were thrown their way, including adding the need to do the kitchen which we thought had already been updated (it hadn’t) which they managed without a problem.
Their quote was extremely good, especially for the service subsequently provided, and I would highly recommend.
I had an electrical problem causing the RCD to trip in the property. The electrician that turned up, Dan, was very polite and helpful. Extremely punctual. Ended up being various damaged cables throughout the new kitchen I had installed.
Despite the challenge with the existing kitchen remaining CW Electrical managed to replace the damaged cables and reinstate the existing electrics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my House Need Rewiring?
The most important question of them all. Rarely do people opt to have a rewire, the circumstances often force them too. Our blog post (click here) we’ve compiled covers various reasons you may possibly need a rewire.
In short, reasons we often are called to rewire a property are:
- No earth cables throughout the dwelling.
- Excessive deterioration due to the age of the property.
- Large amount of water damage.
- Flickering lights or other problems occuring with your electrics.
- A ‘green slime’ found on your cables.
- An extension or renovation.
What is involved in a House rewire?
We wont lie, it’s a slightly stressful experience for all involved. Messy, noisy and distruptive.
We’ve done it so many times now we’d like to think we’ve got the process down to a fine art and can minimise the stress.
Our team will be provided with full detailed drawings inline with the agreed quoted specification (should you want to make changes whilst we’re on site then we can easily accommodate, we’d rather find out now than after we’ve completed)! Usually starting from the top and working down to the bottom floor.
On average it will take 3 days to pull the cables in and chase them so they are flush with the building ready for plaster. The final 2 days are spent installing the accessories and testing.
How much will my REwire Cost?
The cost of a rewire initally seems like a daunting prospect but our customers often find themselves surprised by how competitive our quotations are. The cost of a rewire can vary dramatically based on various things such as:
- If the property will be occupied during the rewire.
- The size and access of the property.
- The amount of socket outlets required in each room.
- The specification of the fixtures used in the property – whether basic white accessories or a more design-driven chrome accessory.
- The type of lighting used. Plaster-in profile LED strip; Recessed downlights or simple pendants can alter the price.
Due to these variables we don’t usually like to give a one-size fits all price. A free survery can provide you with a no-obilgation quote which will be tailored to your property.
A very rough idea for a basic specification would be:
- 1 Bed Flat/House – Starting from £1700
- 2 Bed Flat/House – Starting from £2100
- 3 Bed Flat/House – Starting from £2800
As stressed, the price of your rewire can vary massively depending on the size and specification.
Will I recieve certification & a warranty?
Upon handover of the competed project, we will provide you with the following electrical certificates and warrenties:
10 year electrical installation certificate.
TrustMark registered insurance backed warrenty.
Under Building Regulations we also issue Part P certification.
How long can I expect a rewire to take?
On average, we find that two electricians and an apprentivce will manage to complete a rewire in 5 days
This really depends on what access to all the rooms is like and how easy we can gain access to the void areas within your property.
We will keep you informed throughout the process and will give you a heads up at the end of each day to let you know if we’re still on track.
